Basketball Blasts from the Fenton Family's Past. . .
As we root for our favorite team during
"March Madness", we thought we'd share a few "Basketball
Blasts from the Fenton Family's Past." Fenton family
members from the second and third generations have
always enjoyed participating in basketball. Shown below, far left: Frank
M. Fenton stood 6' 7" tall when he played basketball for
Marietta College in 1933-34. He was fond of saying that
he was actually "5 foot 19 inches".
Frank's son Tom recalls the basketball backboard on
the edge of their paved driveway with bushes beyond. "We
played a lot,"
he said. "One on one or 2-on-2. Dinner waited while we tried
to get to 11 baskets, or 15, or whatever was 'game.'" Robust
competition often landed a Fenton among the evergreens, amidst
laughter and references to the "bush dragons" claiming yet
another victim.
Imagine this starting lineup during the
1970s: Mike Fenton, 6' 6"; Tom Fenton, 6' 4"; George
Fenton, 6' 4"; Don Fenton, 6' 1"; and Randy Fenton, 6'
even. These five third-generation Fenton men were
together on the court when they played basketball in the
Marietta City League on a team sponsored by . . . who
else? . . . Fenton Art Glass Company! Can you name and
place the "Fenton Five" in the photo?
|
The "Fenton Five" (back row and
first on bottom left) pose with some of
their
teammates after winning an Industrial League
Championship game in the Marietta Recreation Department
League in the 1970s. Other team members included Fenton
employees. |

jewelry to the rich look of the blanket and pillow. There's
even a "scarab" on the cat figurine. This was a popular amulet
used in Ancient Egypt.

A common sighting at many backyard bird feeders
is the Blue Jay, a large songbird known for its perky blue
crest, black neck bridle and noisy calls. Michelle Kibbe hand
painted this talkative bird perched on a pine branch, watching
a nearby house. Complimentary soft hues provide the background
for her design. Michelle added lush greenery and landscape
details on the back complete the look on this impressive
Limited Edition vase.
Did you know. . . The black bridle across the
face, nape and throat of the Blue Jay varies extensively and
may help this bird recognize another of its species. Their
fondness for acorns is credited with helping spread oak trees
after the last glacial period. Each Watchful Blue Jay
Vase is $170.
Pre-orders for the
Egyptian Cat Stylized Cat
Figurine, Egyptian Cat Chessie Cat Covered Box and and
Watchful Blue Jay Vase will be accepted until midnight (ET) on Monday,

with her vibrant hand painted design on our Rose Satin Alley
Cat. Colorful pink tulips and a delicate pink and black
butterfly adorn the body of this figurine. Note those
expressive eyes! Each Butterfly Tulips Alley Cat
Figurine is $225 and limited to 15.
Michelle continues her Spring floral theme with a lush floral
design on this Jadeite Doll figurine.

blossoms and vines. Each Roses on Green Doll Figurine is $115.
Below: The shape of this Opal Satin
"Feather" Vase provides the perfect canvas for Robin
Spindler's hand painted "Mystical Bird" design. Framed within
the feathers, a majestic pink-hued bird rests on a branch that
is laden with brilliant blue flowers. These flowers encircle
the vase, even to the top edges! Note the meticulously
executed details on the bird. Each Mystical Bird
Vase is $180.
