Fenton USA Presents. . . Limited Quantity
Gone with the Wind Lamp in Spruce Green Satin
This Preferred Second 23'' Gone with the Wind Lamp is
handcrafted in Fenton's Spruce Green Satin glass and features
a lovely handpainted design by Stacy Williams. A duck gazes
at a nearby dragonfly, which is hovering amongst the cattails
(on the top shade) and the bottom shade has a frog peeking out
of the water. Just 15 of these Spruce Green Satin Gone with
the Wind lamps were made and fewer than a dozen are now
available. Each lamp is numbered and signed by either
Stacy Williams or Frances Burton.
Each Fenton lamp was mouth blown by a skilled craftsman in the
Fenton factory. Few occupations match the romance and beauty
of the glassblower's art. Seemingly without effort, the
glassblower shapes the gob of orange-red molten glass on his
blowpipe before expanding it with a puff of his own breath.
Most of our glass lamp shades were made with cast iron moulds.
Our skilled glassworkers had to shape and manipulate the
molten glass on their blowpipes before using the proper mould
for each piece. These operations require both patience and
skill, and such qualities come only after many years of
experience. The blower must have the proper amount of glass
for the piece to be made, and he must anticipate the final
shape of the piece. This anticipation means distributing the
molten glass on the blowpipe and creating the ball shape for
each shade.
Fenton introduced ''courting lamps'' in the 1960s. We soon
began offering student lamps with marble bases and ''double
ball'' (Gone with the Wind-style) lamps in many different
colors. Spruce Green and Spruce Green Satin were introduced
into the Fenton line during the 1990s. |
