Swing into Spring with Vibrant Orange Slice!

For Spring 2011, we offer a vibrant
new color called Orange Slice,
an artistic color with its own personality! What we love best
about Orange Slice: vibrancy and variety! The shades go from gold
to orange at times, and it
may look as if it has an opalescence on
the finished edge.
Orange Slice provides the perfect glass canvas for our newest
swung vase! A century ago, swung vases were created from tableware
items such as spoonholders or celery holders. The graceful shapes
proved popular and we made many pieces in Carnival glass from
about 1908-1915. In the 1950s and 1960s, we rediscovered
techniques for making swung vases, and our milk glass bud vases
were very popular.
Today, we revisit these traditional techniques using Orange Slice!
To
make a swung vase, a special tool
called a snap grips the bottom of a newly-pressed vase.
Looking much like
a drum major, a glassworker swings the snap in an ever-increasing
arc. Centrifugal force extends the top of the vase, making it
taller and taller. At just the right moment, the motion ceases,
and another Fenton "swung vase" is complete. When our glassworkers
are making swung vases, it is a favorite stop on our Fenton factory

 Dirty
Jobs and Fenton Internet Specials!
Fenton employees participated in filming an episode of the
Discovery Channel television show Dirty Jobs. The show
aired November 10, 2009 and has been repeated several times. This
special t-shirt paperweight was created to commemorate the show.
Fenton designer Kim Barley (one of Mike's top fans!) created the
colorful handpainted decoration with assistance from Hot Metal
Scheduler Tammy Holshu, who also designed the mask used for
sandcraving. Mike Rowe decorated his own Dirty Jobs t-shirt
paperweight (under Kim's supervision) during the show. Each
t-shirt paperweight is made by hand, and yours is personally
signed by the talented Fenton artist who completed it. Click on
