Winter Aura on French Opalescent
First popular during Victorian
times, opalescent glass has been a Fenton staple since we started
making glass in 1907. Opalescent glass contains a small amount of
bone ash. During the manufacturing
process, the glass
is allowed to chill briefly before
being reheated in a direct fire
furnace called a glory hole. This chilling and reheating process
causes
the milky-white opalescence to form.
Our sparkling French Opalescent
glass is the perfect canvas for Michelle Kibbe's handpainted
Winter Aura design. Her delicate design features a country
church nestled in a wintry landscape. This popular collection from
2008 continues with nine new shapes for 2009, ranging from a
Student Lamp (shown at right) and the three pieces shown below to
a Fairy Light, Ornament, Pitcher, Rose Bowl, and Songbird. These
items are also available unadorned. Mix and match for a beautiful
holiday display!
